It struck him as curious that he could run at all on feet so frozen that he could not feel them when they struck the earth and took the weight off his body. He seemed to himself to skim along above the surface, and to have no connection with the earth. Somewhere he had once seen a winged Mercury, and wondered if Mercury felt as he felt when skimming over the earth.

This paragraph stuck out to me because of how London could put into words the feeling of numbness. I have searched for a long time to put those feelings into words, but have never found them. He also used one of my favorite subjects, Greek Mythology. He did so by using Mercury as an example. Everybody who knows Greek myths Knows Mercury is the messanger god. He flys from place to place useing winged sandels. That is why I noticed this paragraph.

Many people will build a nice hot rod and keep it, while others will build something just for the joy of the work and sell it soon after finishing to finance the next project. Brent Jackson is an example of the latter. He built a twin-turbo `57 Chevy and a `69 Camaro, and after selling them both, had the funds (most of them anyway) to buy his dream car, a midyear Corvette. He ended up finding a wrecked `65 with, in his words, "almost no front end and a bent frame" for a reasonable price. Because it needed a lot of work, and because he had fiberglass experience from working on boats, Brent made the decision to alter the car the way he wanted to, with some custom tricks to give it a modern look.

I liked this paragraph because it is the intro to athe story of the remodle of a classic car. It not only shows that you need time as well as money to build or rebuild cars. It also shows what a guy will do to get his dream car. I know if I had to, I would learn how to build a car from scratch just to own a Ford Mustang G.T.500. This  paragraph shows what a man will go through to have the car he wants.

The first difference I noticed between these two works of art is the clothes. The farmers in the top painting are wearing proper church like clothes. This, to me, says that they are not hurting for money. The farmers in the bottom picture are wearing a more common work outfit that, just by looking at it, you can see that they where meant to last. The second thing I noticed was the expretions on there faces. The first, it looks like they know something is wrong, and they could lose it all at any time. The second, they look like they have already lost it all, and are on there way to recovery. One of the more subtle differences are that the farmer in the top painting is holding a pitch-fork like he wants you to know what he does for a living. The bottom farmer, is slouched and looks kind of bummed that you know what he does for a living.

Malachai's face was expressionless, but Randy sensed his apprehension. Malachai never before had been asked upstairs to receive his pay. In the office, Randy dropped into the highbacked, leather-coverd swivel chair that had come from his father's chambers. Malachai stood, uncertain. "Sit down," Randy said. Malachai picked the least comfortable straight chair and sat down, not presuming to lean back.

I like this paragraph because it shows respect. This kid knows to be respectful out of habbit. Even though he has known Randy for many years, he can still see that he is his boss. He can separate personal life from work. If more pepole could do this and still be respectful, this world would be a much better place to live. So come on people, step up and show a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Randy nodded. Conquerores knew or sensed this. Caeser had done it, Xerxes, Napoleon, and Hitler failed. "If Xerxes had won at Salamis," he said, "we'd all be speaking Persian-but that was a long time pre-Sputnik, and pre-ICBM. I thought the fight, now, was for space. Who controls space controls the world."

I chose this paragraph because of the historical references. It mentions all of the great leaders of old. Even if they were nut-so syphcopathes(Hitler). They were great military leaders, that rose to power through there command of the army. Except Xerxes, he was born into it, and thought he was a god-probably do to some bad childhood experience. They all conquored most of Europe in there day. Not hard to do these days, but it was quite a feet for them. I liked the violent references of the discription.

It all sounded bad, but familiar as an old, scratchy record. He had heard it all before, in almost the same words, back in `57 and `58. So why push the panic button? Mark could be wrong. He couldn`t know, for certain, that the balloon was going up. Unless he knew something fresh, something that had not appeared in the newspapers, or been broadcast.

This paragraph stuck out to me for one reason, and one reason only. It shows me how redundant the world is. Hearing the same old thing everyday, like 'the gas prices are through the roof,' or 'the global economy is in the crapper.' It gets old, real fast. Why can`t we find a better, more interesting subject to talk about? Something a little more upbeat, like how the progress of the war is good. That`s something I would like to wake up to.

As soon as she saw Dave`s face, Florence could sense whether the news was going to be good or bad. On this morning Dave looked troubled, and sure enough, when he began to give the news, it was bad. The Russians had sent up another Sputnik, No. 23, and somthing sinister was going on in the Middle East. Sputnik No. 23 was the largest yet, according to the Smithsonian Institution, and was radioing continuous and elaborate coded signals. "There is reason to believe," Frank said, "that Sputniks of this size are equipped to observe the terrain of the earth below."

As soon as Marry saw the news she knew that somthing wasn`t right. She could tell by the pained look on the mans face. When the man began he started with a thin weak voice. The Ducks had lost for the first time all season. If that wasn`t bad enough they lost the biggest game of the year. Somthing was wrong, the Ducks never lose. As he went on he said "Though the Ducks lost and ten of them were injured they still ended up wining. In further investigation of the opposing team the CFL found that the other team was taking prefomance inhansing drugs and was disqualified."

We were gathered together for what we expected to be the last time. The ten Travelers and Uncle Press. Our final meeting took place in the same spot where I had said my good-byes to Mark and Courtney. We were in the center rotunda of the Taj Mahal. Uncle Press had called us together, and we knew why.

We were called together for only the second time in each of our careers. The five of us stood in the small room. It was dark when the giant video monitor flickered to life. The Man in the Mask ,as he liked to be called, appeared to give us our instructions. This time was different, he didn`t speak right away. When he did speak, he spoke with a pained voice. We all got the hint that somthing was wrong. With no warning the monitor exploded. We were under attack. We knew our identities had been compromised.

The young minister, on ceasing to speak, had withdrawn a few steps from the group, and stood with his face partially concealed in the heavy folds of the window-curtain; while the shadow of his figure, which the sunlight cast upon the floor, was tremulous with the vehemence of his appeal. Pearl, that wild flighty little elf, stole softly towards him, and, taking his hand in the grasp of both her own, laid her cheek against it; a caress so tender, and withal so unobtrusive, that her mother, who was looking on, asked herself,-"Is this my Pearl?" Yet she knew that there was love in the child`s heart, although it mostly revealed itself in passion, and hardly twice in her lifetime had been softened by such gentleness as now. The minister,-for, save the long-sought regards of woman, nothing is sweeter than these marks of childish preference, accorded spontaneously by a spiritual instinct, and therefore seeming to imply in us something truly worthy to be loved,-the minister looked round, laid his hand on the child`s head, hesitated an instant, and then kissed her brow. Little Pearl`s unwonted mood of sentiment lasted no longer; she laughed, and went capering down the hall, so airily, that old Mr. Wilson raised a question whether even her tiptoes touched the floor.

I picked this paragraph for no reason inparticular. It did show, however, what the auther can do. It tells you that Pearl is a stoned hearted little elf. It also shows that no matter how evil she is, she still has the room in her heart to show compassion. You can tell that the auther is skilled in the art of writing, if not from the book in a whole, just this paragraph tells you that she knows how to put a character together. She can also show a sensitive side to a beast in just a moment time.

Life now grew where none had existed for centuries. I didn't know how long it had been since I was on Zadaa, but time had definitely passed. The shore was now lined with palm trees and swaying grass I saw what looked like samll deer drinking from the freshwater sea. The day was clear. The sun was warm. For a brief moment I let myself believe that all was well with Zadaa.

In this paragraph the auther was trying to tell you how much things have changed since th last time the character had been to Zadaa. He wants to show you that all is well, but tells it's not so you don't get your hopes up. He's trying to get across to everybody that things can change for the better, can then turn around to be back where it all started. The idea is  that a desert can change into an oasis but still can be a dangerous place. Be aware of your suroundings cuase nomatter where you are you can still be in danger.
