The first difference I noticed between these two works of art is the clothes. The farmers in the top painting are wearing proper church like clothes. This, to me, says that they are not hurting for money. The farmers in the bottom picture are wearing a more common work outfit that, just by looking at it, you can see that they where meant to last. The second thing I noticed was the expretions on there faces. The first, it looks like they know something is wrong, and they could lose it all at any time. The second, they look like they have already lost it all, and are on there way to recovery. One of the more subtle differences are that the farmer in the top painting is holding a pitch-fork like he wants you to know what he does for a living. The bottom farmer, is slouched and looks kind of bummed that you know what he does for a living.

  1. Your comments are very perceptive, Matt. You helped me see some things I hadn't put words to before. (But let's get there & their straight right now, okay? Here & there, they & their.)
